We routinely collect samples from the gas sources of the Massif Central, driven by two main objectives: educational and scientific:
For the educational aspect, we involve students in their second year of the licence program at OSUC, where they have the opportunity to sample six springs annually. This hands-on experience teaches them the techniques of gas sampling and the analysis of helium and CO2 with a mass spectrometer.
On the scientific front, we consistently sample CO2 springs to conduct a comprehensive mapping of the 3He/CO2 ratio across the Massif Central. The list of some studied springs is here.
